Registering for wedding gifts can be a fun way for you and your future spouse to begin designing your new home, or add to your existing collections. Here are some tips for creating your wedding registry!
When To Register For Wedding Gifts
Make sure your registry is set up at least a month before your engagement party or bridal shower - this will be the first time guests consider purchasing a gift for you. Ideally, you should register no later than 7 months before your wedding.
Where to Register for Wedding Gifts
Stick to two or three stores you love to keep it easy for your guests. These stores should have a wide selection of merchandise, in a variety of price points. If you plan to register in person, do some online browsing first so that you have a starting point when the time comes. Or, create your registry online to make it even easier!
How to Communicate Registry Information
Wedding etiquette strongly discourages having registry information included with the wedding invitation, but it can be communicated on your wedding website. Registry information can be shared on shower invitations, and of course word of mouth is always a great option.
Alternative Wedding Registries
Not every couple needs a new blender or sheets, so today there are many alternatives available. You can register for your honeymoon, and have guests contribute towards experiences you’ll share on your trip. You could register for gift cards for restaurants you enjoy, or home improvement stores if you see lots of projects in your future. You can even request donations to your favorite charity in lieu of gifts!
Keep Your Registry Updated
As guests purchase gifts, your registry will be updated to show those items as unavailable. But sometimes, items may be discontinued or go out of stock between the time you create your registry and your wedding. Check it frequently to see if you need to add or change any items.
Don’t Forget the Thank You Notes
Be sure to write a personal, hand written note thanking your guests for their generous gift. Be detailed, including a description of the item and how you plan to use it. If you registered for honeymoon activities, include a photo of your adventures, or a postcard from your destination.
