Stress Relief Tips

Wedding planning is stressful. But add in a worldwide pandemic that is leaving our daily lives in a tailspin, and the stress can become overwhelming. Here are some tips to help you handle the stress you are feeling.

You are not alone

With today’s social-distancing requirements, you can begin to feel alone. You’re not! Not only are other brides and grooms struggling with the same hard decisions you are, wedding professionals across the world are also dealing with those decisions - and the outcome of them. Remind yourself that others are feeling exactly what you are feeling, and we will all find a way to get through it. Stay connected to friends and family via phone, text or video to avoid feelings of isolation.

Focus on what you can control

We’re all feeling a bit helpless right now. And even though there is a lot of uncertainty, you can focus on things that you can control. Set daily routines, make a list of projects you can do at home, or find ways to help others. Ask elderly neighbors if you can pick up their groceries for them, sew face masks for medical professionals, or write thank you notes to people who have helped you.

Keep up with your exercise regime

Taking a short walk through your neighborhood can be a great boost for your mental health. Gyms may be closed, but there are lots of online workout options available. And stick to your normal diet as much as possible. Remember, you will have a beautiful wedding gown to wear when this is over!

It’s okay to ask for help

Asking for help can be hard. But we all need help right now in some way! Now is the time to rely on your tribe, but sometimes you may need professional help. We’ve mentioned online counseling services like TalkSpace before, and now is a great time to reach out to a counselor. Most churches have options to speak to a clergy member by phone (or even text!) too. Don’t let stay-at-home restrictions prevent you from reaching out for help.
